The Contract is generally for the following Work:
• Raise and armor an 87m section of earthen dike on the Kicking Horse River to meet the
minimum freeboard requirement of 0.6m above the 1:200-year flood line.
• Enhance fish habitat within the project boundary.
The earthen dike improvements generally include site preparations, erosion and sediment
control measure, removals, hauling and disposal or salvage of existing riprap and gravel
materials as needed, excavation, backfilling and compaction, earthworks, installation of riprap
and granular filter to raise and amor the earthen dikes, a core of semi-permeable Dike Fill and
Riprap bank armor protection, granular filter installed between the Riprap and Dike Fill,
restoration and reconstruction of existing path along the dike with 200mm depth compacted
25mm crushed gravel. Removal of vegetation as per Corolla report and Kicking Horse River
EMP. Planting of live stake bundles within the armoured bank, and planting of native grasses
and herbs along the top of the bank, and installation of a riprap apron and fish habitat boulders
at the bottom of the bank.
