Description

Haida Gwaii is located off the northern coast of British Columbia. The current infrastructure has limitations in terms of capacity, reliability, and diversity, which are critical for supporting economic development, public safety, education, healthcare, and overall quality of life. Recent connectivity disruptions have highlighted the need for a resilient telecom infrastructure.

The expansion of redundant and resilient links in British Columbia is supported by private sector investments, as well as funding programs from various levels of government, including the CRTC Broadband Fund.

This RFI seeks an expression of interest, with supporting information, from qualified firms in providing a diverse and redundant transport link between Haida Gwaii and the coast of mainland BC, should appropriate funding be available. Solutions should be capable of providing sufficient capacity to support service to the 2,400 households on Haida Gwaii as well as cellular services and a number of anchor institutions.
