UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SINGLE SOURCE CONTRACT: #21-042
UV Marking/Micromachining System
The University of Waterloo (UW) intends to award a single source contract to DPSS Lasers, of Santa Clara, CA, USA, for the purchase of a Samurai UV Marking System as described herein. The budget for this entire package is approximately $85,000 USD, not including taxes/HST.
This is an Advanced Notice indicating to the supplier community that UW intends to award a contract for this equipment to a pre-identified supplier. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date of this notice, a statement of specifications that satisfies the stated requirements set out in this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that their statement of specifications meets the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
If other potential suppliers submit statements of specifications during the fifteen-calendar day posting period, and meet the requirements set out in this Notice, UW will proceed to a Request for Proposal process, in order to award the contract.
Process - Suppliers who can provide equivalent equipment with proven functionality required for the research, within budget, are encouraged to submit a statement of specifications, in writing, to the contact person identified in this Notice on or before the closing date of this Notice. The statement of specifications must unequivocally demonstrate how the supplier meets these advertised requirements within budget.
SPECIFICATIONS –
Desktop Samurai System includes the following:
2-axis UV Galvo Scanning system, beam expander/optics and routing mirrors
Mechanical mounting, hardware, base, optics and scanner in "Desktop" configuration
Simple laser safety chamber - Single Interlock
Model 3510-30 Laser System:
Diode Pumped Solid State Laser, 1.0 W at 30 kHz at 355nm and TEMoo. (up to 33 uJ per pulse)
Laser System Includes - Laser head, Power Supply, Chiller, hoses and all cables
Marking software (WinLase Pro from Lanmark Controls)
FTheta Lens F=103 mm.
Work area of 50 x 50 mm with ~ 10 micron spot size
Optional inclusions:
330 mm f-theta lens 330 mm f-theta lens 22-24 um spot size & 205 x 205 mm field size
SARPA Device- Adjustable power level by the user with remote control
The package also includes 4.0 hours of assembly and training on site.
SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION
The research team investigated no fewer than five competing systems; in order to bring the purchase within budget, selection was made for the following reasons:
The Desktop Samurai allows for a combination of processing small feature sizes (small beam spot size) and wider areas, without any requirement for external dry compressed air, as well as the ability to hook up to our existing factory exhaust system.
