The Coordinating Entity is issuing an RFI to better understand what sleep lab equipment and service are available in the marketplace. The RFI process should also inform the Entity regarding the equipment’s features, benefits, and functional processes.
The Coordinating Entity is requesting information from potential bidders in an effort to inform the future Request for Proposal requirements.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Sleep Disorders Centre is the only publicly funded Sleep Lab in Manitoba and is located within the Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg. SDC has capacity to perform approximately 300 in-Lab L1 Studies (technologist attended/monitored. Includes; sleep electroencephalogram, electromyographic, Video) and 200 out of centre L3 studies (unattended sleep apnea screening without sleep EEG, EMG or Video monitoring) per month. The Brandon Regional Health Centre partners with SDC to perform an additional 10 – 20 L3 studies per month.
SDC has 10 rooms equipped to perform L1 studies each night. The majority of these studies are split night studies. Currently, Sandman Elite is the Collection and Analysis platform used.
Half of the collection system is MDrive-based amplifiers (2013) and Patient connection boxes and the older half are made up of SD32 amplifiers and Patient connection boxes (2002).
Study protocols include the ability to add additional EEG electrodes for seizure montage (SD32 system only) external DC devices (transcutaneous CO2 monitoring, Ventilator pressure, flow, volume and leak) and monitoring of limb extremity movements during sleep.
NPPV Treatment is provided using Resmed variable positive airway pressure (VPAP) units.
L3 Studies are conducted using the Remmer’s home sleep study system. Most of these units are over 10 years old. The Sleep Disorders Centre is looking to utilize technology to support multi-site service, out of lab studies (ie: L2 and L3) and ease of remote access.
