VIA Rail Canada is looking for a supplier with the expertise with Digital display to enhance passengers experience in train stations and at ticketing counters.
Digital Towers (several stations, details below)
In this project, boarding digital towers are key signage elements. In terms of messaging, five elements are critical 1-Gate number, 2-Train number, 3-Destination, 4-En-route stops, 5-Type of boarding (pre-boarding, priority boarding and general boarding).
Digital towers need to be visible in a crowded environment (92 to 94 inches tall). They need to be seen from both sides in some stations. Station agents should be able to have the gate number flick approximately 30 minutes prior to boarding, to grasp attention (activated as needed at each boarding).
Between boarding periods, towers will be used to showcase marketing content such as: food sold onboard, local events or marketing campaigns (image, animated content or video). The towers will also be used to communicate urgent information to passengers (storm status, safety message, amber alerts etc.).
The required quantities of digital towers per train station are the following:
Digital towers with digital display on 1 side only (7 in total):
- Toronto: 4 units
- London: 3 units
Digital towers with digital display on both sides (15 in total):
- Toronto: 5 units
- Montreal: 5 units
- Ottawa: 3 units
- Quebec: 2 units
Vertical Screens (8 units) (Montreal Central Station)
The vertical screens will replace the current PVC panels that are used at each gate to indicate boarding. Their design must be as close as possible to the current look. The final product will have to be approved by Heritage Canada and Cominar.
Horizontal Screens (14 units) (Toronto Union Station)
The horizontal screens are the last elements of this project. The system feeding the check-in screens is not optimal as it takes too long to implement and test new visuals. With our current system, each of the 7 screens is monitored by a separate tablet. VIA has seven other kiosks that are presently rented to another tenant at Union Station, they need to be equipped with the same screens.
