Description:
The purpose of this RFP is to acquire a computer cluster to develop a small computation facility that will facilitate collaborations between several MSE faculty and faculty across FASE in the area of Computational Materials Engineering. The facility will also provide collaborative instructions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in modern software tools used in CME. This is significant since shared computational facilities such as SciNet are not available for educational purposes. The collaborative researchers will conduct research on improving speed and performance of codes for atomistic simulations through large-scale parallelization, usage of the very latest available computer architectures and hardware, and appropriate choices of compiler and math libraries. This work done at the local level will also enable the most efficient usage of other larger scale computational resources. In the long term, the proposed facility will lead to set-up of a multi- disciplinary centre based on the theme of Computational Materials Engineering that trains students and postdocs in a coordinated instructional and research environment.
