This Request for Proposals (“RFP”) is an invitation by Simon Fraser University (“SFU”) to prospective proponents to submit proposals for executive search services, as further described in Part 2 – The Deliverables (the “Deliverables”). Established in 1965, Simon Fraser University is located on British Columbia's west coast, and boasts three distinctive campuses, Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey. SFU is Canada’s leading comprehensive research university and is ranked one of the top universities in the world
The selected proponents shall be expected to perform the following Deliverables:
A. Develop a recruitment strategy and detailed methodology, including a complete review of SFU’s
requirements, sourcing, media, search, timeline. The recruitment strategy shall be discussed and
approved by SFU’s unit manager or search committee or appointed Chair.
B. Prepare candidate profile and position description, postings, advertise positions through chosen
media and professional publications, and develop a long-list of candidates for review, including
referring interested candidates to the postings, searching the market, responding to inquiries, and
screening resumes based on SFU approved criteria and criteria that mitigate bias when the talent
pool is the largest. Ensure the institutional, position and candidate profile reflect SFU’s
commitment to diversity and inclusion and that the sourcing strategy will reach and appeal to a
broad talent pool
C. Conduct preliminary interview for medium-listed candidates for review by the search committee or
appointed Chair.
D. Interview medium and shortlisted candidates with the search committee, including drafting
interview questions, coordinating the interview with SFU stakeholders and, if necessary,
scheduling travel, arranging accommodation and managing expense reimbursement for identified
candidates, facilitating concierge services as required to provide local information about housing,
schools, etc.
E. Check references and verify credentials, including checking candidates’ performance, reputation,
credit and criminal records, verifying education and other credentials.
F. Assist the Search Chair / responsible executive in offer preparation and negotiation by providing
salary comparison data and advice about other details of the appointment.
G. Follow up and debrief unsuccessful candidates as the search activities progress.
H. Provide regular updates to SFU’s search committee, forward all documents related to the search
to SFU, and debrief on search process and outcome.
I. Conduct assessment of candidate success at one-year anniversary including at minimum an
interview with the committee chair, and candidate.
J. Provide other services related to executive search.
