Description

RFB for the Supply, Delivery and Installation of One (1) Continuous Ambient Metals Analyzer
Scope of Work
The objective of the Deliverables is for the Vendor to supply, deliver and virtually assist with the installation of one (1) Continuous Ambient Metals Analyzer to the Ministry’s Environmental Monitoring and Reporting Branch (“EMRB”) located at 125 Resources Road, Etobicoke, Ontario M9P 3V6 (the “Site”) that is to be used as a replacement for one of the current, non-functioning analyzers.

The Ministry delivers monitoring, assessment and reporting on the Province of Ontario’s air quality in support of one of the objectives of protecting and improving clean air. Vehicles are a major source of air pollution in cities. Traffic-related air pollution (“TRAP”) is emitted from vehicle exhausts, fuel evaporation, secondary pollutants formed in the atmosphere, and non-tailpipe sources such as brakes, tires, and road dust. Metallic and elemental species are an important component of TRAP and could be harmful to health especially when they are contained in fine particulate matter. TRAP can be found up to 250 meters from a major road and approximately one third of population in Canada, 45% in the Province of Ontario and 50% in Toronto live within 250 meters of a major road. Exposure to TRAP is linked to various negative health impacts, especially for children, seniors, and people with pre-existing health conditions.

The CAMA will be placed in the EMRB’s flagship roadside air monitoring station. This helps EMRB better understand the complex composition of particulate matter which is critical in determining how major sources of pollution impact the Province of Ontario’s air quality.
