PPHSA 135570 - PHSA 13570 Cobalt Unit Source Removal

Notice is hereby given that the Provincial Health Services Authority (“PHSA”, the “Health Authority”), intends to directly award a Contract to the following supplier to provide the removal, transportation, and disposal of a
Cobalt Unit Source for BC Cancer - Vancouver at an estimated value of $134,500 CAD.

In accordance with applicable trade agreements, PHSA has chosen not to proceed with a competitive process for the following reason:
• the services can be supplied only by the selected supplier and no alternative or substitute exists
for the following reason:
(a) due to an absence of competition for technical reasons

BC Cancer Vancouver requires the removal of a Cobalt Unit Source used in radiation therapy. Best Theratronicsholds a Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) servicing license, they are the original manufacturer of the equipment and their service technicians are the only ones certified to safely remove the source using the manufacturer-certified container, therefore they are the only vendor qualified to remove and transport the
source for disposal.
