Description

We invite Alberta Parks’ visitors to connect with nature through provincial park experiences and programs. This inspires people to discover, value, protect, and enjoy the natural world and the benefits it provides for current and future generations. Alberta Parks promotes safe and responsible enjoyment of Alberta’s provincial parks and recreation areas. Not only does the Alberta Parks system offer camping facilities throughout the province, we also have many facilities and services that serve day visitors such as trails, picnic areas, trails, beaches, and boat launches. Waskahigan-Simonette Facility Operating Group (FOG) includes two parks: Waskahigan River and Simonette River Provincial Recreation Area (PRAs), hereafter called Waskahigan and Simonette. Waskahigan is 37.5 km south of Valleyview on Highway 43. Simonette is nestled in the deep valley of the Simonette River about 10 km south of Highway 43 on the Forestry Trunk Road.
Both sites have small campgrounds, with 20 unserviced campsites at Waskahigan and 23 unserviced campsites at Simonette. There is also a group camping area at Waskahigan that accommodates up to 20 camping units. Currently, seasonal camping is offered at both sites. These are rustic parks with very basic amenities – vault toilets and firepits in both locations and a picnic shelter at Waskahigan. There are hand pumps for non-potable water.
Waskahigan offers opportunities to explore through an extensive informal trail system, as well as access to Iosegun River for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Simonette offers a day use area with amenities and access to the Simonette River for fishing, however there is no boat launch and visitors are urged to use caution if swimming/floating due to changing river conditions.

Alberta Parks is seeking Proposals from businesses or organizations with demonstrated experience to operate and maintain Waskahigan-Simonette FOG. The Operator will provide a quality and safe visitor experience at these northern hidden gems.
