2.1 PROJECT OVERVIEW
a) Project Background
Bow Habitat Station provides more than 200,000 Albertans with access to experiential environmental education opportunities that foster stewardship of the province’s air, land, water and biodiversity. Its Discovery Centre houses 12 flow-through freshwater aquaria designed to showcase Alberta’s various fish species such as lotidae, minnow, perch, pike, salmonid, sculpin, sturgeon and sucker species, including several species at risk. Experienced aquarium and fish maintenance personnel with specialized knowledge are required to maintain the quality of aquaria and provide quality husbandry and care to the 20+ species and 150+ fish on display.
b) Project Objectives
The Aquarium Maintenance Service Provider provides proper care and maintenance of the 12 flow-through freshwater aquaria by:
- Providing routine cleaning and maintenance of aquaria and their equipment systems.
- Monitoring, maintaining and recording fish behaviour and fish health for a diverse number of freshwater species, including the coordination of procurement for approved feed and treatment products.
- Monitoring aquaria water quality.
- Providing services in alignment with established biosecurity protocols for the facility as outlined in the established Fish Health Management Plan for Bow Habitat Station.
- Communicating routinely with the Contract Manager regarding aquaria and fish health, including but not limited to movements of fish between tanks, treatment of fungi/parasites, mortalities or other pertinent information that may impact the aquaria and their fish.
c) Project Structure
The performance of services are completed in accordance with existing policies and procedures as established by Bow Habitat Station (i.e. Government of Alberta legislation and policies, Fish Health Management Plan and strict biosecurity protocols, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, codes, regulations and site emergency response procedures).
d) Related Project Documents
Bow Habitat Station’s Fish Health Management Plan outlines details on services and processes involved in the care of aquaria. Request for documentation can be made to the contract manager via email.
