Description

AEP requires a contract to hire professional services to oversee and assist in the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of a conduit weir fish fence on the Muskeg River near its confluence with the Athabasca River. The fish fence will have upstream and downstream collection baskets, and will be used to document spring spawning adult fish that use the Muskeg River watershed.

The Muskeg River is located approximately 53 km north of Fort McMurray, AB. This project supports the delivery of Oil Sands Monitoring work plans. Comparing current year findings against historical sampling data serves to indicate change to community composition, species richness, and species abundance, which may be an indicator of change to fish health, habitat, and water quality. The results of this work will support both long-term monitoring and inform area communities with relevant information to help their decision-making and guide community based monitoring programs.
