Current state:
The University of Waterloo’s main campus, located at 200 University Ave. W. and extending to areas north, south and east of this address, currently maintains 13 emergency call stations. These are of the ‘blue light’ type and are reaching their end of life. A campus map is available at: https://uwaterloo.ca/map/.

To support personal safety initiatives and emergency response, primarily related to our students, a strategy to replace and augment emergency call stations is underway. To date, a consultant has been engaged to advise on the placement and type of equipment.

Future state:
Our future state involves a plan for a phased approach for the procurement and installation of emergency call stations that supports student safety and is fiscally responsible. In addition to stand-alone call stations, we are exploring the option of building-mounted exterior call boxes in more central areas of campus.
