UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO - NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SINGLE SOURCE CONTRACT: 18-109
Custom build of a Biological Chamber, a customized low temperature plant growth room
The University of Waterloo (UW) intends to award a single source contract for the customized build of a biological chamber (i.e. low temperature plant growth room) to BioChambers of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, as outlined below.
This is an advanced Notice indicating to the supplier community that UW intends to award a contract for this fabrication to a pre-identified supplier. If no other supplier submits, on or before the closing date of this Notice, a statement of qualifications that satisfies the stated requirements set out in this Notice, within budget, the competitive requirements of the University are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that their qualifications and proposed approach meets the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
Requirements
The Geography and Environmental Management team involved in this research are looking at effects of climate change and landuse disturbance on peatland ecological, biogeochemical and hydrological processes.
The customized low temperature walk-in room will be built to the following specifications:
- External dimensions approximately 4000mmW x 5000mmD
- External height of must not exceed 2540mm .
- Interior height (growth height) must not be less then 1930mm measure from floor to the bottom of the dual pane lamp loft barrier.
- Internal dimensions of approximately 3000mmW x 5800mmD
- 4700mmD x 2500mmW dual-pane glass barriered lamploft equipped with 400W metal halide and 400W high pressure sodium lamps (light intensity of 900umoles/m2/s at 1000mm)
- Lamp loft must have dedicated cooling system
- Sliding door measuring approximately 1500mmW x 1930mmH
- Single temperature zone with control temperature range of -10 degrees C to +40 degrees C (all lights on), and, -10 degrees C to +40 degrees C (all lights off). Temperature spike during defrost cycles must not exceed +1°C. All lights must remain on during defrost cycles.
- Additive CO2 system with Li-Cor IRGA Sensor
- Spray nozzle additive humidity system
- Auto-Irrigation system
- Water-cooled condensers in each of the refrigeration systems
- Equipped with desiccant dryer de-humidification system
The University’s budget for this project is estimated at $750,000 CAD, before HST.
