Background
This research program focuses on developing control and protection systems for alternating current (AC) direct current (DC) power networks to facilitate the large integration of inverter-sourced renewable energy sources (RESs). To achieve the main goals of this research, a real-time digital simulator with real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities is required. The real-time digital simulator will facilitate the realization of mixed AC-DC grids by expediting the development and testing of control equipment and protection relays that are widely used in the transmission and distribution systems. In addition, this simulator plays a crucial role in advancing the technology and redesign of electric equipment that is required to be adopted in the changing power system, which has resulted from the aggressive plans for large integration of RESs in Ontario.
Delivery and installation of equipment is expected by September 1st, 2020.
The budget for this purchase is capped at $200,000 CAD, not including HST.
This acquisition is made possible in partnership with the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
