The proposed instrument is a single quadrupole mass spectrometer and Nitrogen generator. The Mass Spectrometer is to be interfaced with an existing Shimadzu Prominence HPLC (CBM-20A, DGU-20A, two LC-20AD, SIL-20AC HT, CTO-20AC, SPD-20A). The Nitrogen generator is to supply required gas flow to the Mass Spectrometer. The project should include computer and software to seamlessly interface the existing HPLC system to the new mass spectrometer for LCMS analysis.
General Description:
This project will generate a seamlessly integrated single quadrupole LCMS system for routine analysis of complex mixtures generated by research at the Chemistry Biology interface. LCMS analysis is typically performed daily to detect and characterize complex molecules from biochemical reactions, bacterial cultivations, or in vivo metabolite trapping.
The requested single quadrupole electrospray ionization MS will be interfaced with a Shimadzu Prominence HPLC system comprising of a CBM-20A, a DGU-20A, two LC-20AD, a SIL-20AC HT, a CTO-20AC, and a SPD-20A. The requested MS must have ultrafast polarity switching to enable collection of positive and negative ionization mode spectra simultaneously with high sensitivity, and must have superior sensitivity. The MS detector should be highly robust, particularly with regards to dirty samples, and be easy to maintain. The ESI probe should be shown to perform exceptionally well in ionizing natural products, including terpenes, as well as hydrophobic organic compounds, enabling this instrument to be used for metabolite and synthetic molecule detection. An APCI probe for ionization is also required enabling effective ionization of a broader range of analytes.
The requested instrument includes a nitrogen generator, which will provide the N2(g) flow required for the ionization probes. This Nitrogen generator must be able to supply the required gas flow needed to operate the MS detector under ESI and APCI ionization conditions.
The Appendix A specifications contained in this RFP are the mandatory minimum requirements and the rated criterias for the Single Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer and Nitrogen Generator.
