BACKGROUND:
Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter into a contract with High Voltage Engineering Europa B.V. to procure:

• upgrades of two Model SO-110B-200 Negative Sputter Ion Sources to Model SO-110C-200 versions (16a);
• supply one CAN Node Module for control of an Isobarex Isobar Separator for Anions assembly, to interface with the existing  HVE 3.0 MV AMS system control hardware and software (15a) and
• supply one 120º low-energy, high resolution analyzing magnet to add a second injection line to the existing low-energy mass spectrometer system, compatible with existing controls for fast and slow sequential isotope  injection (17a).

• Ion source vacuum housing, including:
• Bushings and high-voltage protection cover
• Source head

• Extraction cone geometry
• Ion source power supplies with increased voltage and current ratings; target power supply upgraded to 12 kV, 10 mA.
• Upgrade control software
• Improved voltage holding capability of components inside, as well as outside the vacuum, resulting in substantially more silent operation with reduced noise even at high-current operation.
• Improved ionizer alignment with specific features to reduce the risk of misalignment.
• Improved vacuum pumping capability.
• Tested to have low ion source memory effect using chlorine targets with enriched material with 35Cl/37Cl ~20,000 such that 2 minutes after the enriched sample is measured, the measured ratio is reduced by a factor of 10,000.
• Factory tested for stable beam output of: 2 µA 27Al-, 30 µA 9BeO- and > 400 µA 12C-.

• Basic CAN Node including:
  • EPROM, un-programmed
  • Internal wiring and back panel configuration
• CAN (Node) bus cards:
  • Max. 2 Analog OUT cards, each 4 x 12 bit and 1 x 16 bit
  • Max. 1 Analog OUT card, 4 x 12 bit
  • Max. 2 Analog IN cards, each 8 x 12 bit
  • Max. 1 Digital OUT cards, each 16 channels
  • Max. 1 Digital IN cards, each 16 channels
• CAN Fiber card (one needed for each CAN Node)      
• Light guide, duplex
  • Length: distance between CAN Node & Computer to be specified by Buyer (max 40 m)            
• Programming of EPROM including:
  • Functional design based on customer input on system configuration and I/O signal listing (max. 7 days for first CAN Node, max. 1 day for every next CAN Node).
  • Software development
  • EPROM programming and test
  • On-site assistance with CAN Node installation (Max. 1 day per CAN Node).
• Necessary extension of Can Fiber
• Low level Software control and integration in existing software

• Magnet specifications:
  • Radius :                         455 mm
  • Gap:                               ~62 mm (varying)
  • Mass-energy product:       12 AMU×MeV  (supports 339 AMU at 35 keV)
  • Dispersion:                   1050 mm
  • Resolution:                   > 800 at 265 AMU using PbF2 samples
• Vacuum chamber electrically isolated to ±3 kV.
• Provisions for mounting a Hall probe
• Support frame
• Degaussing unit for existing 120º low-energy analyzing magnet
• Magnet coils and isotope selection electrode (isolated vacuum chamber) to have identical electrical characteristics as the existing 120º magnet so that power supply and software for control thereof and fast switching power supply and software for control thereof and for sequential injection can be used.

• The Ion Source upgrades and new components need to be fully integrated and work seamlessly with the existing accelerator mass spectrometer, in particular with its safety interlock system and electronic control system. Such integration requires information about the existing spectrometer which is proprietary to its manufacturer. 
• The high resolution injection magnet will operate from the same power supplies and high voltage sequential injection actuation and control system as the existing injection magnet.  Therefore, it is essential that the characteristics of this magnet be identical to those of the existing one.
