The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for GC-MS system to measure natural and anthropogenic chemicals in complex biological, environmental, and experimental samples in liquid and gas phase (aqueous and orgranic solvents, air, smoke/vapour). In addition to identifying and quantifying chemicals in the initials samples/mixtures, the associated research seeks to identify and quantify chemicals, related byproducts, and their respective release and reactivity in air when subjected to varying intensities of heat.
General Description:
A gas chromatography / mass spectrometry system for separation, detection and characterization of polar and non-polar chemicals in simple and complex sample matrices. The ideal system will include integrated or integratable capacity for direct or indirect sampling in liquid, gas or solid phase and/or controlled heating of samples prior to injection.
Mandatory Requirements:
1. Gas Chromatography (GC) system
1.1 Must be a new GC system. Refurbished models will not be accepted.
1.2 The proposed GC must be a benchtop model with an automated system.
1.3 Must include operating and data processing software. The operation of the solution must be software controlled.
1.4 Must include a minimum of one autosampler.
1.5 Must include direct, split, and split-splitless injection capacities.
1.6 Must offer a colum n oven temperature range of ambient+10C (or lower) to 400C (or higher) with accurate control (±1%) and reproduceable heating and cooling rates.
1.7 Must be compatible with Helium and Hydrogen at a minimum.
2. Mass Spectrometer (MS) system
2.1 Must be a new MS system. Refurbished models will not be accepted.
2.2 Must have a minimum scan speed of 10,000 Da/ sec
2.3 The mass spectrometer must include an electron ionization (EI) ion source and have option for chemical ionization (Cl).
2.4 Must have a minimum mass range of m/z 1 – 1000
3. Computing, Data Processing and Handling
3.1 GC/MS system must come with instrument and acquisition/analysis software installed on a Windows PC that is included within the proposal.
3.2 Must be capable of providing software upgrades for up to 5 years.
3.3 All required software licenses must be included within the proposal.
3.4 Data results must be available in exportable Microsoft Excel (or Excel-comparable format accepted by uOttawa).
4. Other Requirements
4.1 On site installation of the GC/MS system, including workstation calibration and software integration, must be included within the proposal.
4.2 Must be capable of providing up to 5 years of total warranty; covering parts and labour.
4.3 Must include an initial training.
