PART 1: INTRODUCTION

1. - Background Information

1. - Statement of Requirements
  1. The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for A Dual vapor microgravimetric system to measure gas adsorption over porous materials in the presence of controllable levels of moisture.

The requested dynamic dual vapour microgravimetric sorption analyzer for adsorption of gases and vapours is a critical piece of infrastructure required to evaluate the performance of porous materials for gas separation applications. This emcompasses investigations of moisture adsorption from air and industrial gases, pre-combustion/post-combustion CO2 capture, biogas upgrading, natural gas sweetening, hydrogen purification and other gas separations, which are at the forefront of new technologies for clean enrgy generation and storage, and greenhouse gas mitigation. The effect of water vapour at different relative humidities on CO2 adsorption, possibly in the presence of commun impurities in industrial gases is of particular interest. This instrument will be complementary to existing gas adsorption equipment.

General Description:

The dual gas/vapour adsorption analyzer will be capable of measuring the adsorption behaviour of porous solids, including metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks and zeolites for single and multi-component adsorption of gases and vapours. Importantly, this instrument will be used for adsorption capacity measurements allowing for the determination of adsorption rate, selectivity, uptake capacity and adsorption equilibrium. Of particular interest, this system should be compatible with a range of industrially relevant gas separations and purifications, including CO2, H2, N2, CH4, higher hydrocarbons, CO, O2, to name a few, and be suitable for water/VOC/solvent vapour adsorption.

The equipment will be placed and operated in a regular research laboratory at the University of Ottawa.

Specifications listed in Appendix A – Technical Specifications Compliance Form of this RFP are the mandatory minimum requirements for the Dual Vapour Microgravimetric Sorption Analyzer .

1. 1. Should any equipment included in a proposal be superseded by a newer model during the period of time between the award of contract and the delivery date, the successful Proponent will be required to inform the University of Ottawa of the new specifications, the newer model pricing will remain the same as what was offered in the RFP. At its sole discretion, the University of Ottawa may opt to make changes from the list of equipment by altering, adding, or deducting some equipment.
