TF 08-21-817 - URBAN DESIGN & PLANNING CONSULTANT for 2022 CAMPUS MASTER PLAN UPDATE

The successful Proponent will work closely with Facility Services’ Space Planning team and meet on a monthly basis with the Campus Master Planning Steering Committee comprised of various stakeholders from across the University.
For the plan to be successful, consultation and engagement with the University community and the community in the surrounding neighbourhoods are paramount. The Project will advance in four main phases to ensure appropriate buy-in from stakeholders as development proceeds:
Phase I:            Consultation and Information Gathering
Phase II:          Development of Preliminary Framework and Recommendations
Phase III:         Preparation of Final Plan
Phase IV:         Approvals

The updated campus master plan will build on the 2016 plan and be uniquely positioned to address a number of challenges and opportunities not present in past plans:

• Impact of the pandemic on the University’s approach to planning and growth;
• Alignment with the University’s Institutional Priorities and Strategic Framework 2021-2024, found here;
• Development of a sustainable roadmap for campus development;
• Re-naturalization and protection of lands within the Spencer Creek Watershed in West Campus;
• Potential partnership projects arising from light rail transit (LRT) plans in Hamilton;
• Review of of multi-modal transportation network needs on-site and off-campus, especially with the development of the 10 Bay Graduate Residence and the Main Street West Residence – this will include an assessment of parking and vehicular transportation as well as active modes of transportation such as walking and cycling;
• Consolidation and densification of parking;
• Entrance and signage improvements to campus;
• Preservation and enhancement of outdoor spaces and tree canopy and improving outdoor collision spaces for networking and collaboration; and
• Aesthetic appeal and well-being on campus.
