Background and Purpose

McMaster University and the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (CCEM), has a requirement for one (1) in-situ transmission electron microscope (TEM) gas cell holder and a machine vision software system. The CCEM is the national facility for electron microscopy and is committed to provide its user base with accessible specialized electron services, one of which is access to state-of-the-art in situ TEM equipment and resources. The ability to utilize an in situ gas holder to re-create environmental conditions in the TEM and observe nanoscale reactions in real time has been identified as a deficit in the current resources available to CCEM users. In addition, a growing request for increased TEM stabilization and TEM dose management has been identified. Thus, a suitable in situ gas cell holder and TEM software accessories that manage data collection and TEM dose measurements is a required addition to the CCEM facility.
The Atmosphere Gas Cell holder system equipped with the AXON machine vision software platform from Protochips is the only in situ system on the market utilizing machine vision technology to lower the learning curve for TEM experiments, greatly improve resolution during environmental changes, streamline data aggregation and analysis, and increase reproducibility between experiments and labs. The AXON machine vision platform, containing modules Synchronicity, Studio, and Dose, collects and aggregates all TEM, imaging, and in situ metadata from advanced gas cell in situ experiments, provides live physical and digital drift correction, electron dose management, and a data-post processing platform for observing trends, publishing, and sharing data sets. Soquelec Ltd., as the exclusive Canadian distributor for sales at Protochips, is the only available supplier for the Atmosphere and AXON systems.
The CCEM and Soquelec Ltd. have mutually decided to begin a partnership agreement that will provide enhanced technical support for the integration of such in situ TEM systems to be seamlessly integrated into the facility. Soquelec Ltd. is the sole distributor of the Protochips Atmosphere and AXON systems.
The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to signal McMaster University’s intention to award a contract for the above-noted goods and/or services to the following pre-selected supplier:

Prior to awarding this contract, McMaster University is providing other potential suppliers with the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying the requirements as per this ACAN, by submitting a Statement of Capabilities Form during the posting period.

If other potential suppliers submit a Statement of Capabilities Form that meet McMaster University’s requirements as set out in the ACAN, McMaster University may proceed to a competitive procurement process.

If no other supplier submits a Statement of Capabilities Form on or before the closing date/time, a contract may be awarded to the above-noted pre-selected supplier.
