In 2011, the Centennial College Athletics and Recreation Department (A&R) expanded the Progress Campus
recreational sports field to accommodate a regulation size soccer pitch. The transformation became necessary as
the result of limited availability of community soccer facilities for the COLT’s men’s and women’s soccer teams to
practice or host Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) sanctioned games. The new field not only increased
intramural / recreational activities but also allowed the COLT’s to host a league soccer game on Campus and did so
for the first time in Centennial history in September 2012.
The notion of a domed artificial sport turf facility was first considered by Centennial College Student Association
Incorporated (CCSAI) and was to be part of the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) project. Netgain Partners
Incorporated was commissioned by CCSAI to complete a Feasibility Report that was completed in October 2011.
Their recommendation was to build a dome turf or field house facility. In discussion with the CCSASI and A&R, this
project formally became a College initiative at an AWC Management Board Meeting in September 2012.
