Yellowknife, NT is the capital city of the Northwest Territories; and is located on the northside of Great Slave Lake. The Northwest Territories Power Corporation generates and supplies Power to the City via two transmission lines from 2 hydro facilities Snare and Bluefish. They also have a backup diesel generating station located in the city limits of Yellowknife at Jackfish Lake (JLS). (Google Earth Lat and Long 62⁰ 28’07.48” N - 114⁰ 22’51.68” W). The current output of JLS is 25.4MW, this does not meet the current Required Firm Generation Capacity requirements of 105% of the current load in Yellowknife. The Northwest Territories Power Corporation requires the supply of one (1) diesel genset with a power range of minimum 4.2MW to maximum 5.0MW Continuous Rated (Black Start Capable) to add to the generation capacity of the Jackfish Lake diesel generating plant in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
There are 2 major constraints:
First the new Diesel Generator must fit within the boundaries as provided in this section. The currently open bay in the CAT plant is 5M x 12M long of available space to house the new diesel.
The second constraint is the timing of the delivery of the genset, it has to be purchased and delivered to Jackfish Lake in Yellowknife before Mar. 29th of 2023.
