The Quonset building located in Fort Smith at the NTPC site (approximate dimensions 75 ft L x 42 ft W) was initially built as a garage on a gravel flooring. Through the years
the building was used as a workshop and warehouse because of the increasing maintenance and repairs required on the South Slave's distribution lines.
The existing gravel floor contains dust that floats through the air even at the lightest activity being performed inside the building. The dust that floats through the air gets inhaled by NTPC personnel and thus has been a concern as a health hazard. Additionally, equipment stored in the building becomes coated in dust which can impede function so frequent cleaning is required.
NTPC is requesting proposals for solutions to control the dust. Proposals will be evaluated on the improvement to worker safety, ongoing functionality of the building, suitability for the climate and remote location, cost and proposed schedule.
