Project Overview
This architectural project is to design a 16,000 sq. ft. building representing a Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence. The building will contain 10 private residential hospice rooms, 15+ offices, commercial kitchens, large multi-faceted rooms which will house a day hospice, bereavement and community meeting programs. Dining area for programs, residential clients and families. The building will have space for a children’s area that can be also be used as a quiet space, several quiet areas in the residential area for family members to sit, a salon type room for hair washing etc., a large room to house a therapeutic bath tub, shower and toilet area, a locked medicine room adjacent to staff & volunteer area, space for storage, a teaching/community room. The building will have lots of areas where natural light can enter. The building will be built according to long term care specifications (code) including fire code, larger than normal width of doors in residential area. The outside will be landscaped for wheelchair accessibility as well as the availability for beds to go outside. Each residential room will have windows that open, private washrooms with sinks. All areas must be wheelchair accessible.
There will be a need for 35 to 40 parking spaces for staff, volunteers and family members.
Design must meet the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario and Ministry of Health Building specifications and requirements for a hospice.
