The Coordinating Entity is conducting research to better understand the current market and service offerings for an integrated system to track and manage lung cancer screening.
Lung cancer screening can find lung cancer at an earlier stage, saving lives and healthcare system costs. A Lung Cancer Screening Registry (LCSR) system is needed to support an organized lung cancer screening program in Manitoba. It will be used to invite, assess eligibility, schedule, refer, and follow outcomes for potential lung cancer screening clients. The registry will need to be linked to external sources and data will need to be extracted for evaluation and data sharing purposes.
An organized Lung Cancer Screening Program would not be able to operate without the use of a secure registry. Current ad hoc screening is not adequately tracked, presenting challenges in determining if Manitobans have benefited from participating in ad hoc screening.  An organized approach can ensure clear client education, informed consent, timely client follow-up, appropriate nodule management and quality assurance.
