Health Canada has sponsored an ambitious project to modernize the data management and performance reporting systems used to support organ donation and transplantation (ODT) across the country. This project, which is being co-led by Canada Health Infoway and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), will improve workflow processes and efficiencies, reduce redundancy in data entry, implement data standardization, and improve data quality, and provide pan-Canadian performance reporting with the ultimate aim to increase organ donation rates, access to transplantation, and improved patient outcomes.
Canada Health Infoway is facilitating a public procurement process for a sustainable deceased donation management (DDM) solution that will be deployed in multiple jurisdictions. A DDM solution is a software application that automates and streamlines key processes, communication and information flows related to donor referral, consent, assessment and clinical management in order to optimize the identification of donors and retrieval of organs and tissues.
It is expected that the successful vendor will be asked to enter into a pricing and supply commitment agreement with Canada Health Infoway. Through that agreement, the vendor would be eligible to enter into future, separate negotiations with each Purchaser (at the Purchaser’s option) to settle and execute a comprehensive agreement with that Purchaser for the DDM solution.
