The Power Systems Technology Centre (PTC) is a business unit of MHI and is a world leader in electrical power simulation, applied power systems analysis, and related technologies. PTC develops and markets a variety of products including PSCAD™/EMTDC™, a renowned power system simulation software. Additional innovative technologies to improve transmission system efficiency are offered by PTC.
PTC offers clients an experienced team of engineer professionals that have a wide range of experience providing solutions to the global power industry. PTC has leading experts in the field of HVDC who provide unique expertise in engineering studies, equipment specifications, and maintenance and system operation.
PTC also provides comprehensive training for PSCAD™ as well as a variety of power system courses and custom training. Other services offered by PTC include maintenance and support, laboratory testing and research opportunities.

POSTION
MHI is seeking an individual contractor to provide electromagnetic transient simulation services as needed commencing February 10, 2020.
FEES AND EXPENSES
The contractor will quote a daily fee in Canadian dollars excluding all applicable taxes. The daily fee will be limited to a maximum of eight (8) hours per day, while employed on the project activities or business development activities including travel days. Fees for part-days will be based upon the number of hours that the Contractor actually provided the Services in a given day, multiplied by the daily rate, and divided by eight (8). Actual fees will be subject to negotiation and mutual agreement.
Expenses to be reimbursed are limited to directly related travel expenses such as airport fees and taxes, visas, vaccinations and reasonable hotel and ground transportation expenses incurred for the
purpose of carrying out the Services.
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Contractor will be responsible to:
- Act a resource in simulation technologies, provide answers to all customer-based queries, questions, and problems for our software products. A sound knowledge of electromagnetic transient simulation background and application is required to fulfill these tasks
- Develop simulation models and components as required to enhance the capabilities of the simulation tools and add new features.
- Participate in all phases of software testing of our simulation products, prepare and executive appropriate documentation, develop processes, and function as part of a larger team communicating requirements, results, and customer needs to our development and marketing teams.
- Interact with MHI existing and potential clients on technical matters.
- Provide expertise on technical developments in power systems, including AC, DC, power electronics, distribution systems, and related fields.
- Prepare, maintain, and distribute appropriate and timely help documents, manuals, workbooks, on-line help, FAQs, and other materials of benefit to our customers.
- Participate in special studies in areas involving simulation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees specializing in Electrical Engineering from an institution of recognized standing.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience working in a power system simulation, model development and electromagnetic transient study environment.
- Previous experience working on vendor specific power electronic control models in PSCAD™ and PSSE formats.
- International business development and bid preparation experience.
OTHER
- Contractor to provide own equipment, supplies and office facilities. MHI may provide temporary workspace as required.
- Contractor to sign an Independent Contractor Agreement and will undergo a personnel risk assessment.
- Contractor to specify the employee performing the services. No subcontracting will be permitted.
