With this Request for Proposals (“RFP”), the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (“CMHR”) is soliciting proposals to provide exhibition design (environmental, 3-dimensional, spatial with digital integration) of an exhibition between 3500 – 4000 sq. ft. for the following mixed-media exhibition:
Title: Civil Liberties in Canada in Times of Crisis 1914-1970 (working title)
Partnership: This exhibition will be co-created by the Canadian Museum of History (“CMH”) and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (“CMHR”), who are partners. The Canadian War Museum (“CWM”) is also involved as the research and curatorial team includes CWM staff. The CMH will lead research and global project management, while the CMHR will lead and internally project manage the interpretive approach and design. More details on respective roles and responsibilities are available at Appendix 1.0.

Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, Quebec – September 30, 2020 – April 4, 2021:
The exhibition will open at the CMH on September 30, 2020, marking the 50th anniversary of the October Crisis. The exhibition will be on display in Gallery E-F which has a footprint of approximately 5000 sq. ft. The CMH has a modular wall system available for use in this space. Specifics of this wall system are attached as is a gallery floorplan (Appendix 1.0).
Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg, Manitoba – Spring/Summer 2021 – TBD:
The exhibition will be on display in the Level 1 Gallery at the CMHR. The Level 1 Gallery is approximately 5000 sq. ft. The CMHR has a modular wall system (MILA) available for use in this space. Specifics of this wall system are attached as is a gallery floorplan (Appendix 1.0).
CMH and CMHR intend to offer this exhibition for a national tour following its display in Winnipeg. As such, elements of the exhibition need to be designed with travelling in mind, ensuring ease in transport and installation, using durable materials suited to long-term display and strikes/restrikes of the exhibition. All elements should be “plug-and-play” (physical and digital). All exhibitry is to be turnkey, with the exception of temporary walls which will be the responsibility of each venue to provide and erect.
