Description

Manitoba has 153 Orphaned and Abandoned Mine (OAM) sites that are under the management of the Department of Environment and Climate's Environmental Programs and
Remediation Branch. Many of these sites are located in northern Manitoba in close proximity to Indigenous communities.

Environment and Climate requires the facilitation of meetings with Indigenous communities impacted by orphaned and abandoned mines for the development of an Indigenous led Environmental Monitoring Program
The aim is to develop a plan for implementation in the spring of 2024.
