Description

The purpose of this RFP is to secure a Service Provider that will provide additional meteorological forecast and data services (briefing, data services and consultative meteorological services) to the IESO. These services will help the IESO meet the following objectives:

- Support the implementation, design, and testing of models and processes for the MRP, as well as for continuous operation after the new market is launched.
- Improve demand and meteorological forecast accuracy by procuring a source of information that is independent of the existing meteorological services. Obtaining forecasts from an alternative source will allow the IESO to obtain a forecast produced from a completely different methodology with a completely separate team.
- Build redundancy for the IESO for a critical service needed to maintain reliability and security of the power grid. If either of the two services is interrupted, the IESO operations must continue unaffected. In order to mitigate risk most effectively, the whole process and setup must be completely independent from that used for current meteorological services.
- Aid in the development of demand forecasts that conform to industry best standards.
