Description

The Mayor’s Taskforce on Affordable Housing is a multi-sectoral working group, struck to strategize solutions related to the ongoing crisis stemming from the lack of available options for the homeless and under housed in Iqaluit and the unavailability to access stable housing across the continuum.
With the advent of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Taskforce has identified the urgent need to take immediate action. The pandemic has exacerbated this housing emergency, as already overcrowded shelters and transitional housing programs and other service providers are forced to implement restrictions based on Public Health Orders.
The Taskforce is hiring a consultant to support the work of the Taskforce and its subcommittees. The consultant will facilitate actions that will increase the range of housing options, supply and affordability in the City of Iqaluit, thereby reducing the numbers of people impacted by episodic and chronic homelessness.
